The Standard Chartered KL Marathon was held at the Dataran Merdeka on 27 June, 2010 and 7 FREENET staff including the CEO took part in the 10km race. The tagline of the marathon is “Run As One” with more than 16,500 people running to help raise funds for five Malaysia’s charities through the “Run For A Cause” and “Corporate Challenge” programs. Runners in the much anticipated event were taken through a scenic route dotted by historical monuments and signature buildings of Kuala Lumpur before ending at Dataran Merdeka.
It was a memorable experience for both our runners and its team of supporters who were at the Dataran Merdeka as early as 5:30 a.m. to support this charitable event. We would like to thank all who have attended and shown great teamwork.

Obtains NSP License in Malaysia
has obtained a Network Services Provider (NSP) license from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) paving the way for local and international IP interconnect, transit and switching services.
“With the NSP license,
will continue to enhance our existing IP network infrastructure to serve our managed network customers who depend on us to connect their application and data information to Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa,” said Billy Lee, the Chief Executive Officer of
. He believes that the company will also start to transform two out of its three data centers in Malaysia to become one of the top preferred Asia Pacific regional data centers connecting all international Tier-1 networks in the region. As such, this will enable shorter and lower latency route to respective countries.
“I foresee that Malaysia will eventually become one of the most preferred data center destinations in the Asia Pacific region for MNCs, content providers and Telco. Strong support from the government with emphasis on the increase of data, network and telecommunication infrastructure advancements as well as stiff competition from neighbouring countries are among some of the contributing factors. The recent launching of High Speed Broadband (HSBB) is a crucial milestone for Malaysia signifying high speed network enabling 1Gbps connection via fiber to consumer residence. On top of that, Malaysia has been continuously rated as one of the top 3 IT and BPO outsourcing destinations in the world”, added Billy.
Besides connectivity solutions,
also offers Data Center Services, Service Desk Services, Managed Services, Network Services, Business Continuity Services and IT Solutions Services.

March 2010
supports Earth Hour 2010.
In support of Earth Hour which was held on 27th March, 2010 the lights in FREENET’s Data Center and Network Operation Center (NOC) were switched off for 1 hour from 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m to reduce the usage of electricity and subsequently, lesser greenhouse gas emission. Earth Hour 2010 marks the first year that FREENET has pledged its support (see photos below).
Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature or better known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually. The goal of the event is to ask households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour with the hope of raising awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.
This climate awareness campaign serves as a significant reminder to the community about the type of global warming the earth is facing, such as the rising of temperature and sea levels, drought, famine and changing landscape. Earth Hour is not only about switching off lights for one hour once a year, but also about giving people a voice on the future of our planet and working together to create a sustainable low carbon future for our planet.
